Victorian Small Business Festival 2017, 1 August to 7 September

The first week of the annual Victorian Small Business Festival 2017 is almost finished, but don't panic, there is another month or so to go.

The dates for the Victorian Small Business Festival are 1 August to 7 September 2017. The festival has been running for a number of years, and each year there are hundreds of events in both inner and outer Melbourne as well as numerous regional centres around Victoria.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 8 August sees the Events Hub open. The Events Hub AKA the Festival's CBD headquarters is @ Donkey Wheel House, an attractive Venetian Gothic style old building in Bourke Street Melbourne near Southern Cross Station. For history buffs the building opened in 1891 and was originally the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Company.

The Events Hub will hold a number of events in the one central location of Donkey Wheel House, however there are other CBD events in different locations as well.

Here is a link to all of the Festival events which can be found at www.festival.business.vic.gov.au .

You can book events via the website or telephone 13 22 15.

So far I have booked in for 'Get Found Online: Digital Marketing Masterclass for Business Owners'. Okay, given that I have had a few blogs and quite a few social media accounts, I do have some knowledge on this topic, but there is always something new to learn, and with social media's ever changing landscape, it is good keep up with the latest. It is probably obvious that I am interested in this subject as well.

The festival guide states that 'A real focus of this year's festival is how emerging technologies are effecting small business and how we can harness them to improve productivity and open up new opportunities.'

This year there are over 500 events. Topics include -

  • Business development
  • Business planning
  • Crisis management
  • Customer service
  • Employing and managing people
  • Exporting and importing
  • Financial management
  • Franchising
  • Grants and assistance
  • Green business
  • Home based business
  • Innovation
  • Managing risk
  • Marketing and social media
  • Networking
  • Online business
  • Online marketing
  • Sales
  • Small business bus
  • Social media
  • Starting a business
  • Training and skills development
  • Workplace health and safety

And of course, you might just meet your new customer whilst you attend an event, so if that doesn't motivate you, your business must be doing pretty well.

Cheers and enjoy.
