Visit Broken Hill, Australia's 1st National Heritage Listed City

If you have not been to Broken Hill, there has never been a better time to visit Australia's first National Heritage Listed City. The National Heritage City listing was announced in January 2016, and it is well deserved. It is also a great honour to be the first city in Australia to receive such a listing. That surely tells you that it is worth a visit.

The Miners' Memorial
The city has a rich mining history, think BHP and all Australians should have it on their 'bucket list' to visit. And make sure you stay at least two nights, preferably three or four days as there is so much to see and do. I love the place so much I have published a blog www.ilovebrokenhill.com since December 2011 and I have never run out of things to say. With over 330 posts so far!

As well as mining, the city has an impressive, established, diverse artistic community and there are over 25 galleries. That is a lot of galleries for a population of under 19,000 people.

There is wonderful architecture, a fascinating union history, an active and notable list of filming credits, think Wake in Fright, Mad Max 2 and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert to name a few. There is the wonderful Royal Flying Doctor Service Museum, The School of the Air, The GeoCentre, The Railway Museum, the Sculpture Park and nearby historic Silverton.

The famous Indian Pacific train passes through once or twice a week as well, alternatively you can drive or fly there.

Adelaide is the nearest capital city some 512 km, Melbourne 836 km, Canberra 1,088 km, Sydney 1,146 km, Brisbane 1,544 km, Perth 2,798 km, Darwin 3,133 km.

Have a look at my blog and you will get an idea of what is on offer.

Enjoy.
